River Safety Council
The River Safety Council was founded
in 1997 by the paddling community in response to concerns about hazardous
construction in rivers. Council membership included representatives
from the largest boating clubs in Washington State; Paddle Trails Canoe
Club, Washington Kayak Club, Washington Recreational River Runners and
the Mountaineers. The group was originally called the Boater Safety
Advisory Committee, and its focus was to provide river-user oriented
safety advice regarding construction of large woody debris (LWD) projects
in the rivers of Western Washington. The River Safety Council
is dedicated to safety advocacy for boaters, swimmers, inner tubers,
fishers and other river users.
